Overview

The Gunditjmara Cooperative describes its people as traditional owners around Portland, Port Fairy, Warrnambool and inland to Camperdown. Rivers, lakes and Budj Bim carry historical and cultural significance.

The Cooperative was founded by local volunteers in 1979. The account connects kinship, song, dance, language and caring for Country with cultural continuity.

Gunditj Mirring states that Traditional Owners established their corporation in 2005 to advance cultural identity, heritage and land justice. The two organisations have distinct institutional histories.
