Overview

Capcom describes a laboratory moth enlarged by T-Virus experiments and subsequently escaped from confinement. Its wings do not increase in proportion to the rest of its body, restricting flight to short bursts. Toxic scales become more numerous and potent, so limited mobility does not make the insect harmless. The publisher names its larval stage Baby Moth, grouping the life stages as one creature type. This is an experimental insect whose familiar outline has become grotesquely oversized, rather than a magical moth associated with a folkloric omen.

The original Resident Evil 2 guide places the adult in the underground laboratory’s computer room, where its oversized body can attack the survivor. Its separate larval record describes creatures dropping above the doorway and occupying the desk; they must be cleared to use the computer. The infestation therefore interferes with access to laboratory infrastructure as well as supplying an enemy encounter. Resident Evil Survivor later includes two adult moths in a prison nest, with a tougher aerial threat than its crows according to the inspected guide. These are distinct game placements within the same grouped type, not evidence that one laboratory specimen travelled to every later nest.

First appearances & development

Resident Evil 2 (1998) supplies the selected original laboratory adult and larvae; Resident Evil Survivor (2000) provides the later prison-nest appearance. The publisher explains gigantism through infection and disproportionate wings. Larvae remain a life stage here rather than being counted as an independent species to increase catalogue breadth.

Canon & continuity

The individual publisher dossier supports escaped experimental origin, limited flight, toxic scales and larval naming. Inspected original-game adult and larval guides establish computer-room obstruction. The separately inspected Survivor record confirms a later two-moth nest. No full reproductive cycle, real moth identification or inherited relationship to other enlarged insects is inferred.
