Overview

Feifei inhabits Mount Huo in the Shanhaijing’s first central itinerary. It resembles a catlike wild animal but has a white tail and a mane. Keeping it is said to relieve sorrow.

This is an attributed benefit of nurturing the animal rather than eating it, making the wording distinctive among the collection’s many dietary properties. The mountain is wooded, and the surrounding itinerary lists medicinal plants and fish as well as unusual creatures. Its name is written朏朏, separate from Feiyi serpents and other similarly romanized beings.
