Overview
A Draghkar appears like a pale human with oversized eyes and bat-like wings. Its song suppresses resistance and draws prey toward it, making the sound itself part of the hunting method. The killing contact is described as a kiss, not a vampire bite: the creature consumes the victim's soul and then life. This sequence gives it a different role from a heavily armed Trolloc or a Fade's command presence.
The Eye of the World uses Draghkar as aerial pursuers and scouts around the travellers' escape and Tarwin's Gap. The Great Hunt makes the intimacy of the threat clearer through an attack on Moiraine at Tifan's Well, where Lan and Jaem intervene. Later attacks use them amid larger military distractions, including Cold Rocks Hold and Rand's camp in Jangai Pass. Flight, irresistible sound and proximity thus combine into an assassin's encounter; its wings are useful before the victim realizes that standing still and listening can be the decisive mistake.
First appearances & development
The Eye of the World (1990) gives the early aerial sightings; The Great Hunt's glossary and attack supply a more explicit account of its feeding method. Its fictional origin is an alteration of human stock for the Shadow. This is a supernatural construction, not a natural bat-human family shared with unrelated fantasy settings.
Canon & continuity
The inspected Encyclopaedia WoT entry quotes its source locator as The Great Hunt glossary and indexes attacks by chapter. Those records support the distinction between singing, soul consumption and ordinary biting. This account identifies the primary works without claiming a fresh full-novel reread or a numerical resistance rule.
