Dorfl

Overview

The L-Space reference describes Dorfl as an old clay golem involved in creating a king intended to lead other golems out of slavery. When that project fails, Carrot buys Dorfl and replaces his holy-word instructions with the receipt of purchase. Dorfl develops a personality and confronts the destructive king, surviving even after his body is broken and the receipt crumpled.

Carrot gathers the pieces for rebaking, and Vimes has Dorfl given a voice during the reconstruction. Dorfl subsequently joins the Ankh-Morpork City Watch, linking his new freedom to police work. He later buys and frees other golems, helping establish the Golem Trust.
