Overview

DJAARA identifies Djaara as Dja Dja Wurrung People and Djandak as their Country in central Victoria. Its self-description speaks of caring for Djandak over many thousands of years, through duties inherited from Ancestors.

The organisation records a Recognition and Settlement Agreement signed with the Victorian Government on 28 March 2013. This is a dated institutional milestone, not a founding date for the people.

Its 2023–2024 account describes language reawakening and a Board language subcommittee reviewing language requests. Community stories recount mission-era punishment for using language and customs.
