Overview

SG-1 finds an abandoned city whose lack of inhabitants initially seems mysterious. A swarm of large flying insects reveals the danger, and one stings Teal'c before the team retreats. The attack is not merely venom poisoning: the researchers describe a process that changes the victim's genetic material and can culminate in the emergence of multiple insects. The planet's deserted buildings make the creature's reproductive method consequential beyond an individual injury.

Bane follows the struggle to reverse Teal'c's transformation while Colonel Maybourne sees military potential in the biological process. That conflict treats the infected person as either a patient or an experimental resource. Teal'c's relationship with his Goa'uld larva and the eventual treatment matter to this specific outcome; the episode does not prove that every host species responds in exactly the same way. The descriptive entry name uses the surveyed planet code because the story supplies no stable scientific species name.

First appearances & development

The episode Bane, written by Robert C. Cooper and broadcast in 1998, supplies the substantive creature treatment. BP6-3Q1 is a location designation used to identify the insects, not their self-name or a formal taxonomy. The profile does not conflate them with the later R75 outbreak or Pegasus iratus bug.

Canon & continuity

The inspected GateWorld episode record explains the abandoned city, sting, body conversion, Maybourne's weapon interest and experimental treatment. These are episode-specific fictional mechanisms rather than claims about real retroviral disease. A separate primary creature-design account and additional substantive canonical appearances were not identified in this review.
