Overview

Boroboroton animates a worn futon, making bedding that should protect a sleeper into an unsettling presence. Sekien includes the character among transformed household objects. The folds, torn material and movement of a familiar textile give the figure a body without changing it into a conventional animal. The contrast between softness and threat is central to its visual effect, particularly within an intimate sleeping space.

Later explanations describe attacks on sleepers and connect the object with neglect by an owner. Those narrative details should be identified as accounts of the character rather than assumed facts recoverable from every old bedding image. The profile follows the tattered futon and its place in the utensil-yōkai repertoire. It does not prescribe a fixed age at which fabric acquires consciousness, or make a claim that discarded household possessions actually develop hostile intentions.
