Overview
Beotodus is a piscine wyvern adapted to moving through snow and frozen ground rather than an open body of water. Its sharp head fin cuts a path through the substrate, and it can throw snow at prey with its leg fins. This snow-swimming movement differentiates its cold-environment identity from Jyuratodus's muddy habitat, even though both belong to the same broad monster classification.
Iceborne introduces the species, while Now's official guide describes a later encounter in which accumulated snow and submerged movement alter vulnerable parts. Removing the snow or breaking selected body areas can force it above the surface; those interactions are specific tactical observations. The profile does not extrapolate a complete life cycle from the game's swimming analogy. A piscine wyvern is a fictional category, and its use of frozen terrain is not evidence that a real fish can move through solid ground in the same manner.
First appearances & development
Introduced in Monster Hunter World: Iceborne (2019). This entry follows the version represented by the primary works listed below, rather than treating the name as a single creature shared by every adaptation. Game Hunter's Notes and encounters are the baseline; subspecies, variants, spin-offs and numerical mechanics require title attribution.
Canon & continuity
The exact official Monster Hunter Now creature profile directly supports the selected ecology, visible anatomy and mobile encounter behavior. Monster Hunter World: Iceborne provides the other named primary game treatment. Now is an evolving game first released in 2023; this date does not assert that the species appeared at launch. Numerical balance and later variants are not fully surveyed.
