Overview
The Tooro Kingdom describes Batooro as a people of western Uganda centred on the Fort Portal area, speaking Rutooro, which it classifies as a Bantu language. The Kingdom also acknowledges that other peoples live in Tooro and notes connections with Banyoro and Baganda.
Kingdom pages describe livelihoods combining crop cultivation and cattle keeping, treat personal names as a marker of cultural identity, and present the Omukama as cultural leader. Proverbs, idioms and storytelling are emphasised as ways culture is passed on.
A community-supported UNESCO nomination records the Koogere oral tradition among Basongora, Banyabindi and Batooro around Kasese, transmitted during shared work and gatherings. It is shared heritage across these peoples rather than an exclusively Batooro possession, and Koogere's deeds belong to oral tradition.
