Overview
Astalos is a flying wyvern that builds electricity by vibrating specialized organs on its head, wings and forked tail. Charged regions glow green, accompanying increased power and a greater attacking reach. Its territorial behavior is exceptionally aggressive, with the official account describing determined attempts to drive intruders away. Different body regions therefore act as both weapons and visible signs of its changing condition.
Generations supplies the selected original depiction, and Now's guide documents a later mobile encounter. That guide makes charged regions vulnerable enough that targeted attacks can cancel the state, a useful distinction between increased offensive power and absolute protection. Exact interruption thresholds remain game-specific. This profile does not merge ordinary Astalos with special forms or infer a verified insect inspiration from its wing pattern and crest. The electrical organs are fictional anatomy, not a biological claim about actual flying reptiles.
First appearances & development
Introduced in Monster Hunter Generations (2015, Japan; 2016, English release). This entry follows the version represented by the primary works listed below, rather than treating the name as a single creature shared by every adaptation. Game Hunter's Notes and encounters are the baseline; subspecies, variants, spin-offs and numerical mechanics require title attribution.
Canon & continuity
The exact official Monster Hunter Now creature profile directly supports the selected ecology, visible anatomy and mobile encounter behavior. Monster Hunter X / Generations provides the other named primary game treatment. Now is an evolving game first released in 2023; this date does not assert that the species appeared at launch. Numerical balance and later variants are not fully surveyed.
