Overview
Armus is an intelligent entity on Vagra II that appears as black viscous material capable of taking a roughly humanoid shape. In Skin of Evil, it kills Tasha Yar and torments the stranded crew, using threats and deprivation to demand attention. Armus describes itself as the discarded evil of a vanished people, an origin account delivered by the creature rather than independently reconstructed through scientific observation.
The Enterprise leaves it isolated, and Lower Decks later returns to the entity through a prank call in The Spy Humongous. That brief comic treatment continues the same character's existence without supplying a species population or a broader civilization. This profile catalogues a nonhuman supernatural-seeming organism, not an ordinary humanoid character. Its powers and self-description belong to the named screen encounters; the later joke should not be mistaken for an exhaustive revision of the original episode's limits or motives.
First appearances & development
Introduced in Skin of Evil (1988). This entry follows the version represented by the primary works listed below, rather than treating the name as a single creature shared by every adaptation. Prime-universe screen stories are the baseline; reboot timelines and tie-in novel details are excluded.
Canon & continuity
The listed screen works are the primary narrative basis. The linked official StarTrek.com material identifies this creature and supports the selected appearance or behavior, while editorial interpretation is distinguished from an episode's demonstrated events. Selected television continuity is followed here; licensed fiction, games and later appearances are not exhaustively surveyed.
