Overview
Altmer are the High Elves associated with Summerset. Arena presents them as tall, golden-skinned people with a strong aptitude for magic; Skyrim again makes magical capacity prominent in its playable description. These game implementations establish a recurring identity without making one title's numerical bonuses permanent physiology. A Skyrim reference also records High Elves serving the Empire or fleeing Thalmor oppression, so the political organisation cannot stand for every Altmer.
Summerset's institutions provide a fuller cultural picture. The 2018 chapter places Proxy Queen Alwinarwe in Alinor while Queen Ayrenn travels elsewhere. Ayrenn has ordered the island opened to foreigners, but a royal decree does not eliminate local resistance to newcomers. Scholarly authority is also divided: Lillandril contains both the College of Sapiarchs and a Mages Guild chapter, with rivalry between them. The Crystal Tower combines research with commemoration of the honoured dead, while the House of Reveries offers performance in Rellenthil. Monarchy, scholarship, burial and theatre therefore coexist within the selected setting.
Brother Mikhael Karkuxor's in-world survey describes a pantheon broader than the Empire's conventional eight Divines. Auri-El holds leading importance, and descent from him is a religious claim made by many Altmer. Magnus concerns sorcery; Xarxes records ancestry and accomplishments; Syrabane is associated with magical assistance and young Mages Guild members. The account casts Lorkhan's creation of mortality as a rupture with the spirit world. These stories express theological interpretation, rather than supplying a neutral genealogical chart or proving that every family worships identically.
First appearances & development
High Elves are playable in Arena (1994). This profile follows that published identity through Skyrim (2011) and Online's Summerset chapter (2018), with the latter providing a Second Era political setting. The earlier game's character-selection description and later institutional portrait are distinct witnesses, not simultaneous historical snapshots.
Canon & continuity
The official Summerset chapter account was read in full, alongside UESP's reproductions of the High Elf religious book and selected game descriptions. Karkuxor is a fictional Imperial observer. His divine ancestry claims remain attributed beliefs; the royal and scholarly examples are limited to the chapter's depicted society.
