Overview

The Craftworld Aeldari call themselves Asuryani. Their vast traveling homes shelter communities whose disciplines are intended to contain the emotional excess associated with the Fall and the birth of Slaanesh. A Path can involve artistic or psychic work as well as combat; Bonesingers shape wraithbone through music, while Aspect Warriors specialize in facets of Khaine. Outcasts leave this regulated setting, yet Rangers can return to defend their former home. Harlequins serve Cegorach through performances intertwined with violence, and Ynnari devotion to Ynnead joins followers from differing Aeldari communities. These responses give shared danger several institutional forms instead of one uniform doctrine.

The 2022 Codex: Aeldari campaign preview translates social discipline into narrative progression. Its selected Warrior, Seer and Outcast Paths allow units to develop skills and eventually become unable to leave a chosen course. Ynnari acquire separate benefits through devotion to Ynnead, while Harlequins prepare and enact Grand Performances. Those rewards and progression thresholds belong to that edition’s Crusade system, not to a universal measure of an individual’s freedom. Black Library’s Path of the Warrior synopsis gives the tension a personal example: the artist Korlandril becomes a Striking Scorpion as Alaitoc faces the Imperium, and risks losing his identity in the role he has adopted. Dark Son supplies a different movement between communities, as an imprisoned Drukhari incubus begins to explore a Craftworld Path rather than continuing his previous response to fear of Slaanesh.

Publication and miniature design also shape how the people are encountered. The 2023 Vyper retrospective traces the faction’s curved technological aesthetic through 1991 plastic jetbikes and the 1997 Vyper, whose clear canopy and streamlined panels distinguished it from other ranges. This is a production history, rather than a fictional date for the invention of those vehicles. The later name Aeldari and the earlier Eldar refer to the same broad people in these accounts. Warhammer 40,000’s specific psychic cosmology, institutions and historical catastrophe remain distinct from traditional elves and from elves in other Warhammer settings.

01

First appearances & development

Games Workshop's art retrospective places the Aeldari in Warhammer 40,000's earliest period; the older range used Eldar. This profile draws on selected 2022 campaign explanations and 2025 cultural summaries rather than asserting that every modern institution was already present in the earliest rules. Miniature release dates are distinguished from events inside the setting.

02

Canon & continuity

Official lore and campaign previews support the community distinctions; Black Library synopses supply bounded individual story examples. The Vyper account supports production chronology, not firsthand testimony from its sculptor. No whole novel or original Rogue Trader volume is newly claimed read, and the unsuccessful sample-PDF retrieval contributes no additional story facts.
