Overview

Skaven are ratlike humanoid peoples whose cities, clans and technologies turn treachery into a recurring political and military force. Warpstone links their machinery and magic to danger that can harm operators as readily as enemies. Plague specialists, assassins and engineers occupy distinct roles, so the species contains competing institutions rather than one uniform horde.

Warhammer Fantasy locates them within its own world, while Age of Sigmar develops them in the Mortal Realms after the earlier setting's catastrophe. Their association with the Great Horned Rat and ambitious clan leaders persists, but geography and events require version labels. Unit rules and dramatic weapon failures likewise need the particular army book or battletome being discussed.
