Overview
The official species account describes a once-powerful slave empire weakened when the Jedi ended its dominance and slavery was outlawed in Republic space. The trade persists beyond that jurisdiction and in clandestine settings, including the ruins of Old Ord Mantell City. Some later Zygerrians seek restoration of the old order. This is a history of institutions and surviving commercial networks; neither the qualifier “some” nor the jurisdictional distinction should disappear into a claim that all members follow one allegiance or occupation.
Zygerria’s physical setting combines windswept plains, mesa fortresses and soaring brezak. Its cities and wealth were built through enslaved labour. The official world account describes the subsequent decline of its fortresses and markets while identifying renewed ambitions during the Clone Wars. Political power is therefore tied to infrastructure and a coercive economic system, not simply to feline appearance or a natural predator metaphor. The picturesque landscape does not alter what the source says about the labour supporting it.
Queen Miraj Scintel exploits the Republic’s distraction and Separatist support to expand the trade. Atai Molec holds both the premiership and command of the guard, protecting the monarchy and enforcing control in the markets. Darts D’Nar favours a forceful restoration of power and oversees the relocation of Togruta colonists. These biographies identify different offices and methods within the depicted regime, rather than supplying a census of ordinary Zygerrian households. Their victims and political partners are distinct peoples with their own histories.
The Clone Wars’ episode accounts make the alliance’s limits part of the story. The undercover mission in Slaves of the Republic seeks missing colonists while Anakin struggles with the queen’s demands. Escape from Kadavo then frames his argument that the queen herself serves a Separatist scheme, as Obi-Wan suffers in the camps. That claim is a character’s challenge within a conflict, not an excuse that removes responsibility from the slave-trading authorities.
First appearances & development
Wookieepedia identifies the species name in the 1987 Star Wars Sourcebook; that older reference belongs to the separate Legends publication history. The screen account here centres on The Clone Wars’ 2011–2012 slavery arc. Earlier fictional imperial glory is not mistaken for the date of first real-world publication.
Canon & continuity
Complete official species, homeworld and three leadership biographies were inspected, together with the two relevant episode synopses. The earlier named reference is labelled as secondary bibliography rather than a newly inspected original sourcebook. No complete episode viewing or speculative household ethnography is claimed.
