Overview

Three hunters sleep outdoors in their blankets. Two have customary blue-and-white designs, while the third has red and yellow stripes. Two approaching spirits mistake the striped sleeper for a young wild pig and discuss eating him. Overhearing them, he switches blankets with a sleeping companion, whom the spirits then consume. The story concludes with an avoidance of such blankets when sleeping where spirits might reach the wearer. No names or bodily descriptions are given for the pair; the ending is Cole’s recorded explanation of a precaution, not proof of universal or current practice.
