Overview
Timor-Leste's 2004 decree adopted the National Linguistics Institute's official Tetum orthography. It describes a modern literary standard based on Tetum-Praça, while expressly preserving regional variations. The language-community scope therefore includes variation, rather than equating one standard with every Timorese person's language or identity.
Valentim Ximenes's INCT article examines Tetum and Portuguese in scientific research. Its abstract describes reflection on language-development obstacles and a study of languages used in INCT-funded research from 2020 to 2022. This identifies a particular research-publication context without asserting results absent from the selected abstract.
