Overview

Basset’s short Sous account locates a speaking company of demons in a cave called Taghia Ikhinefnem. The narrative associates the place with people seeking something and spending a night there. Its supernatural inhabitants are represented through their speech and the place’s reputed efficacy, rather than through a visible bodily description.

The specific example is Sidi Mohammed ou Sliman el Djazouli. He goes up to the cave and spends the night. On returning to his house, he finds everything he wanted. The account ends with that result, without recounting a conversation between him and the inhabitants or specifying the goods he receives.
