Overview
Visit Chisinau’s Russian telling places white storks on a Dniester fortress. A commander wants their nests removed, but soldiers spare them because their clattering wakes the garrison. The birds nest peacefully until siege exhausts the defenders’ food and enemies poison their remaining water.
Hundreds of white storks then carry grape clusters in their beaks and drop them to the soldiers. The legend interprets their aid as repayment and says Soroca withstands its enemies. This collective display name describes the episode; it is not a traditional proper name.
Moldova’s official tourism account distinguishes the fortress’s wooden fifteenth-century phase from its sixteenth-century rebuilding in stone. That historical context does not verify the birds’ rescue, date the tale or establish grapes as a medical antidote.
