Overview
The creature summoned through the Serpent Ring tracks Ascalante using a sandal's scent. Its changing apparent resemblance to a baboon or hound does not settle its anatomy. Fangs, talons and a horrifying gaze make it a physical and psychological threat.
Conan's axe fails to stop it, but his broken sword mortally wounds it and its form destabilizes. The narrative associates that blade with earlier phoenix protection. The specific magical confrontation does not establish universal demon immunity or a general power possessed by damaged swords.
