Overview
The Runespoor is an orange snake with black bands, generally six to seven feet long, associated with Burkina Faso and protected forest habitats. Three brains share the body. Their roles are described as planner, dreamer and critic: one determines action, another becomes absorbed in visions, and the third continually judges the others. The official Patronus account preserves these roles, but its interpretation of a human's protective charm should not be mistaken for another zoological trait.
The critic's venomous fangs and incessant complaints can provoke the other heads into biting it off, explaining the occurrence of two-headed individuals without making them a separate type. The species lays eggs through its mouths and has attracted illicit trade in both snakes and eggs. Rowling's separate Floo Powder essay adds a practical misuse of its body parts: would-be manufacturers throw powdered Runespoor fangs into fireplaces and injure themselves. That story does not reveal the secret recipe for genuine Floo powder, nor prove that fangs are a successful substitute.
First appearances & development
The 2001 bestiary establishes the living serpent. The author's later online Floo Powder essay uses its fangs in an anecdote about failed home manufacture; the official Patronus page treats its form symbolically. Runespoor footage indexed as a deleted Fantastic Beasts scene is not promoted here to an appearance in the released film.
Canon & continuity
The source-indexed Lexicon account supplies size, colour, habitat, egg production and conflict between heads. The official Patronus page independently confirms the three roles, while Rowling's complete Floo Powder text supplies the injury anecdote. No exact left-right head assignment is needed here, avoiding inconsistent reader-facing orientation in secondary descriptions.
