Purrgil

Overview

Purrgil are enormous whale-like creatures that travel through space in pods, using fins and tentacle-like appendages for movement. Lucasfilm's Databank describes them taking in gases and making natural jumps through hyperspace, placing living animals within a capability usually associated with spacecraft. Their appearance expands the setting's wildlife beyond planetary surfaces and ordinary atmospheric flight.

Rebels gives particular purrgil a role in Ezra's story, while Ahsoka revisits them in a different journey. Those narrative uses should not make every member equally responsive to every Force-user or guarantee a destination on demand. The profile retains the official account as fictional cosmology rather than a scientific explanation of vacuum survival. Pod behavior and the connection with hyperspace are documented; precise reproduction, lifespan and the complete origin of their navigation remain outside the selected evidence.

First appearances & development

Star Wars Rebels (2016), selected season-two introduction. Selected released screen works and Lucasfilm's official creature reference establish this profile. Film edition changes, separate individuals and the boundary between current canon and Legends are retained where relevant. The entry does not claim an exhaustive earliest-publication audit across novelizations, merchandise, games and reference books.

Canon & continuity

Lucasfilm's exact Databank entry supplies the creature's identification, selected physical or behavioral traits and screen appearance list. The named film or series provides the narrative example. Short catalogue descriptions do not support a complete invented biology. Episode-specific details, film edition changes and additional Legends material require their own evidence; no extended official text or artwork is reproduced.
