Overview
Patamon is a small mammalian-looking Digimon whose large ears function as wings. The contrast between a modest body and its later sacred-looking forms makes it one of the franchise's striking transformation designs. In Digimon Adventure, T.K.'s partner develops within a particular story of vulnerability and courage rather than representing every possible Patamon.
The general reference identity and the dramatic timing of Angemon's appearance provide different evidence. A transformation's emotional meaning in the anime is not a universal game requirement, and a cute design does not imply permanent helplessness. Keeping the versions distinct allows a profile to explain both the recognizable body and why one television individual's development became memorable.
First appearances & development
The television versions selected here are not an exhaustive audit of virtual-pet debuts. This entry follows the version represented by the primary works listed below, rather than treating the name as a single creature shared by every adaptation. Reference Book designs and television individuals are distinct; branching Digivolution routes vary by product and continuity.
Canon & continuity
The official Digimon Encyclopedia identifies this form and its design-level traits. Digimon Adventure (1999) and Digimon Adventure: (2020) supply separately identified television treatments. Reference profiles are not biographies of every animated individual; evolution routes, localized terminology and encounter mechanics must be checked against the selected product or continuity.

Bats
Patamon’s official profile says its large ears allow slow flight, providing a useful comparison with bats as real flying mammals. Bat wings are modified forelimbs with membranes, not enlarged ears. The connection therefore helps explain a deliberate fantasy difference and does not claim Patamon was designed from a particular bat or belongs to Chiroptera.
