AI departure of Pai and Vau; bodies, dress and shoreline imagined.
Creator synopsis only; no community portrait or film frame copied.
Overview
The creator’s synopsis places Pai and Vau on Nanumea before Tefolaha. Using spiritual prowess, he tricks them into accepting his claim to be the land’s true founder. They are forced to leave, and he becomes its founder, guardian and protector. The synopsis leaves his origins debated between Samoa and Tonga.
Samuels describes his heritage through a Tuvaluan-Samoan mother, Nanumea’s Fakaua clan and Sakaio families, alongside a Fijian-Indian father. In his 2020 reflection, he says family transmission supplied much of his knowledge before visiting Tuvalu. His Australian citizenship and birthplace in Fiji are distinct from that ancestral affiliation.
He connects Tales From Nanumea with preserving his maternal homeland’s stories and learning from elders. This profile uses his synopsis; the animation was not inspected and its artwork is not reproduced.
