Overview
Museum Pusaka Nias describes its non-profit foundation, established in 1991, as a custodian of material and intangible Nias heritage. Its public activities include research, publication, library services, audiovisual documentation and cultural education. After the 2005 earthquake, it worked with partners on rehabilitation of houses and cultural sites; this concerns heritage care, not a claim that all Nias communities live alike.
Indonesia’s museum register records the foundation’s legal establishment and a September 1993 museum permit. It situates the institution in Gunungsitoli and describes documenting and publishing cultural knowledge for education. These institutional histories provide dated evidence of preservation efforts, rather than defining a living culture through a museum alone.
