Overview
Nana Tsamiya is Lady Tamarind, the third named female tree spirit at the end of Tremearne’s chapter. Unlike the preceding ficus notices, her account includes a domestic episode. She was a wife of Mai-Aska, but they quarrelled because of her jealousy and he drove her from his house. The collector associates her with the power to give any illness and records hawk-coloured fowls as the proper offering.
Her announcement and song are presented together as a lament. She places the fault upon herself and says that Kuri’s son has gone and left her, tying the separation to the surrounding spirit genealogy. The notice does not describe a tamarind tree changing into a person or give a separate bodily representation. Its evidence is the named tree relationship, the particular marriage conflict and the recorded voice of regret after expulsion.
