Modern AI imagined Jong Batu ship-shaped stone after the storm.
Rock contour, weather and scenery invented; legendary outcome, not actual landmark photography or archaeology.
Overview
The Ministry of Education’s Version B names Si Manis’s mother Dang Embun. He leaves Brunei to trade in the Philippines, becomes wealthy and marries. While awaiting him, she gives away her money. On his return he recognizes her but is ashamed before his wife, orders her small boat pushed away and denies their relationship. She reaches shore and curses him; a storm overturns the ship, leaving Jong Batu in the river.
Pelita Brunei’s 6 April 1960 discussion treats the tale as instruction about obligations to parents. It describes ship-like rock forms near Kampong Ayer and attributes its analysis to Yura Halim and Jamil Omar’s Sejarah Brunei together with oral telling. Its sixteenth-century setting is a narrative framing, not independently verified history. That article spells the mother’s name Dayang Ambun; this should not silently replace the school version’s spelling.
