Overview

Mino-waraji appears as a tall figure clothed almost entirely in long straw strands. A hooded or circular upper covering frames a bearded face, while an extended fringed coat conceals the torso. Thin rope-like legs end in tied straw sandals. One hand holds a long pole across the shoulders, and a looped cord crosses the front of the body beside bamboo stems.

The exact heading 蓑草鞋 identifies the combination of straw rainwear and footwear. Unlike a generic hairy animal, the figure retains recognizably manufactured parts, including the sandal bindings and layered straw covering. The named illustration supplies an object-derived being that can be compared with other animated clothing. It does not by itself document how or when such clothing was believed to gain life outside Sekien’s book.
