Overview

Icherisheher’s administration recounts a shah’s daughter meeting a fisherman at the Maiden Tower. Love enables him to walk across the sea. After one meeting, doubt makes him sink; she enters the water to save him but drowns. This variant interprets the tower through love and purity. The Presidential Library places the cylindrical tower at Baku’s old city beside the Caspian and describes its projecting sea-side support. It explicitly acknowledges uncertainty about the building’s date, function and name. Its discussion contrasts legendary explanations with a proposed interpretation of maiden as impregnable.
