Laundry posser

Overview

A laundry posser pounds washing vertically in a tub of water. Powerhouse’s example combines a cone-shaped metal head, rolled rim and cylindrical wooden handle; this is a working aid for washing by hand.

The account places possers among the tools that eased labour-intensive laundering. Earlier wooden forms preceded metal domes suitable for mass production. The record gives dimensions and acquisition details, but does not identify this example’s maker or manufacturing place.
