Overview
Rerceretnam’s 2019 study uses church registers to examine Melaka-born Peranakan Kristang participation in early Singapore congregations and marriages across community lines. It cautions that some older population estimates are difficult to corroborate. These selected records challenge assumptions of complete social separation without representing every Kristang household.
Teo’s 2017 festival speech credits a youth team led by Kevin Martens Wong with classes, a board game, an online dictionary and a cultural festival. Remaining speakers, including Wong’s grandparents, joined the learning activities. This dated public account documents intergenerational heritage work, not present language vitality or a completed revival.
