Overview
Kosrae's visitor institution welcomes guests with the Kosraean greeting Lenwo and presents village and church communities as central to island life. Kosraean identity here refers to the island's people rather than everyone resident in Kosrae State.
The institution's historical outline records nineteenth-century missionary activity and church change, colonial contact, and Christian Endeavor community organization in entries for 1902 to 1905. These are selected dated events rather than an account of origins.
At the College of Micronesia-FSM's 2009 Founding Day, Kosraean marchers presented dress and hairstyles from different periods alongside 1965 photographs from Utwe, and demonstrated a stick dance. The college's account treats cultural clothing as something that has changed over time.
