Klek, Ogulin’s Petrified Giant

Overview

Ogulin’s tourist board tells of gods withholding food and drink from giants. Klek challenges Volos, whose magical sword turns him to stone where the mountain stands. Before petrification, Klek vows to awaken and take revenge. The Dobra is imagined flowing from his veins; storm-night witches try to wake him.

This account explains a landscape through a sleeping giant and unfinished conflict. It supplies neither a dated ancient text nor evidence of petrification. The magical sword belongs to Volos, rather than being Klek’s weapon.

HPD Klek’s local account preserves a different plot: Perun pursues Klek and strikes his leg; the fallen figure becomes stone, with bent legs and raised feet. Its stream association concerns Klečki potok. These variants are distinguished, not combined into one battle.
