Overview
Karo Foundation presents its work as service and empowerment for Karo communities. Its stated aims include human-resource development, leadership, small enterprises, entrepreneurship and communication. These contemporary goals describe one community organisation’s programme, not universal occupations or a definition of every Karo person.
Indonesia’s museum register identifies Museum Pusaka Karo in Berastagi as managed by the Pusaka Karo Foundation and owned by the Archdiocese of Medan. Opened in February 2013, it holds collections largely donated or deposited by Karo community members. This documented custodial relationship complements contemporary empowerment without turning museum objects into the whole of a living culture.
