Overview

Ithorians originate on Ithor but live across the galaxy. The official guide identifies two mouths, one on each side of the neck, and a rumbling voice. Their distinctive outline attracts the nickname Hammerhead, but anatomy alone does not supply a complete cultural identity. The selected stories place individuals in commercial, religious and armed roles, providing different ways to understand their participation in wider galactic society.

Old Jho illustrates life away from the homeworld. A longstanding Lothal resident, he runs a spaceport saloon and witnesses the planet becoming an Imperial administrative centre. He assists rebels rather than simply maintaining a neutral commercial refuge. When the Empire discovers those activities, it arrests and executes him and takes control of the cantina. The story connects a local institution and its owner to occupation, resistance and the appropriation of civilian property; it does not establish that all Ithorians share his choices.

Byph is a different example, a Jedi youngling selected to take part in the Gathering on Ilum. His challenge involves overcoming fear and finding a crystal for his own lightsaber. That account records an Ithorian within a wider order's training and rite of passage, not a ceremony originating with all Ithorian families. His personal anxiety is likewise an individual trait, rather than a rule attached to the species.

The bounty-hunting brothers Bulduga and Onca challenge another generalisation. The official Bulduga entry explicitly presents peaceful gardening and contemplation as what others assume about Ithorians, then supplies armed counterexamples. Bulduga favours a quick-draw pistol while his brother prefers heavier weapons. These contrasting occupations preserve the difference between a reputation and actual individuals. The profile acknowledges that reputation without using it to erase violence, commerce, institutional membership or political involvement.

First appearances & development

Ithorians appear in A New Hope (1977); later animated series give named members more developed roles. This account uses current-canon species and character references, keeping the original film's appearance separate from later stories. No complete chronology of the species name, older licensed lore or every visual redesign is established.

Canon & continuity

Complete official Ithorian, Old Jho, Byph and Bulduga Databank bodies were inspected. They support the selected anatomy, diaspora and individual institutional roles. The gardening stereotype is explicitly attributed to outsiders in the source; no fresh viewing, universal pacifist doctrine, biological lifespan estimate or exhaustive account of Ithor's society is claimed.
