Overview
An Inferius is a magically reanimated human corpse with cloudy white eyes, controlled without independent reasoning.
Preservation magic cannot protect it from fire, so masters enchant it to avoid flames. Voldemort's lake guardians in Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince were mainly murdered homeless Muggles, with some vanished magical people.
Rowling distinguishes Inferi from zombies because of cultural, soul-related and cinematic associations; their name involves Latin inferus and inferi.
