Overview

The Canada Agriculture Museum’s historical account connects Hutterite communal goods and agricultural work with Anabaptist convictions. It distinguishes three branches and describes movement to North America and Canada. Its examples concern particular historical and contemporary colonies; they do not define all Anabaptists or every household today.

Lehr, McGregor and Hiebert’s 2006 study maps colony diffusion using names, locations, branch affiliations and establishment histories. It relates expansion patterns to pressures and restrictions affecting settlement. The dated study explains historical geography; its mapped distribution is not a current colony census.
