Overview

The Hideous Zippleback's two heads share a body while retaining conflicting wishes. Barf and Belch's official Mystery-class profile parallels this rivalry with the twins Ruffnut and Tuffnut, whose destructive adventures often produce the rare moment of agreement. The official hatchling account also identifies advantages: two heads can improve vigilance and drive prey toward one another. Their cooperation can make a trained dragon seem like two companions, while their close internal relationship can leave them less interested in humans. This is a behavioural description, not proof that the heads are separate biological individuals or the product of a documented fusion.

The School of Dragons guide describes complementary weapons: one head releases green flammable gas and the other supplies the spark that ignites it. A captive wild Zippleback appears in Multi-head Bonanza. Fishlegs proposes an ancestral relationship with Snaptrappers and a dietary explanation for the head count, but this remains his hypothesis within the licensed game. Rise of Berk's August 2026 update separately introduces a live-action-labelled arena implementation whose named breath and spark moves interact with burn effects. Those turn-based status rules belong to the game version and cannot establish a universal duration for a dragon's fire or a biological law about healing.

Canon & continuity

Official adult and hatchling prose was extracted from the public page's embedded character data. The indexed School of Dragons reference supplied the actual guide and quest account after a rendered-page fetch failed. The full developer patch note was read, preserving its live-action label and avoiding a claim that temporary arena effects describe the animated film.
