Overview

According to some authors cited by the ministry, Harakbut, meaning humanity, spread in the 1980s among some communities rejecting imposed names. The ministry places communities around the Madre de Dios and Inambari rivers.

Its language record distinguishes several cultural identities within Harakbut, including Amarakaeri and Wachiperi. Linguistic relationships do not make these local identities interchangeable.

The historical account connects regional pressures with FENAMAD’s establishment in 1982. This federation brought together several peoples, including Harakbut, rather than representing a single uniform community.
