Overview
Hunters describe a hidden mountain lake surrounded by unusually rich fruit and grain. Domestic-looking fowls there approach at a call without fear. Attempts to kill them fail because arrows fall harmlessly from their protected bodies; the story attributes their immunity to the spirits who cherish the place.
The lake refreshes exhausted visitors, while fruit taken away disappears regardless of how firmly it is held. People who deliberately search cannot find the sanctuary, and those who have not seen it doubt the hunters’ accounts. The account names no bird species or individual mountain, and the invulnerability applies to these protected birds, not to ordinary fowl.
