Overview

Essiyako is named principal among the boy spirits of the Little Spots. Red objects are said to appease him because he wants people to regard him and his companions as warriors. The prose associates sore eyes and smallpox with his influence, while the red gift is explained through the martial colour. That explanation belongs to this particular notice rather than to every red offering elsewhere in the collection.

His representation circles with a spear, then sits, claps and beats the ground like the other young spirits. The sequence deliberately contrasts martial presentation with behavior the collector calls childlike. Tremearne could not obtain his song. The picture caption prints Essiayako, a spelling variant retained with the prose name, and the absence of a song is kept as a source gap rather than filled with another warrior’s praise.
