Overview
Dufflepuds are the one-footed inhabitants of Coriakin's island in The Voyage of the Dawn Treader. Their unusual bodies and period of invisibility make discovery and misunderstanding central to the travellers' encounter. The island story gradually reveals that the frightening voices and demands confronting Lucy belong to people whose account of their situation is incomplete and self-serving.
Their exaggerated agreement and faulty reasoning provide comedy without removing the importance of consent and the magician's authority. A label for bodily shape does not explain every choice they make. The film adapts the encounter within a changed voyage narrative, so its staging should be attributed separately from the novel's account of transformation, invisibility and island life.
