Overview

The University of Jammu traces its Dogri department from a research cell in 1971 through a research centre in 1975 to postgraduate status in 1983. Its account describes work on linguistics, grammar, literary criticism and translation, including a Hindi–Dogri conversational guide and the Dogri Shodh research journal. This institutional history does not define a single homogeneous ethnic community.

CIIL and NCERT’s Dogri Primer, first issued in December 2024, addresses alphabet learning and basic numerals for young children and adult literacy programmes. University scholarship and this introductory reader represent different educational settings, rather than interchangeable measures of language use or a complete account of speakers’ cultural lives.
