Modern AI tree-kangaroo interpretation; fine fur, claws and climbing posture are schematic.
Overview
A species account in the Wet Tropics road-impact report describes Bennett's tree-kangaroo as dark brown, with rusty shoulders, neck and head. Its habitat includes upland and lowland rainforest north of the Daintree River and south of Cooktown. The report describes climbing through forest layers, feeding chiefly on leaves with some fruit, and resting crouched on branches. These are ecological observations from the account, not a guarantee of identical activity in every circumstance.
The Tree-Kangaroo and Mammal Group describes the long balancing tail, strong forelimbs and broad gripping feet shared by tree-kangaroos. Its Bennett's-specific account includes coastal lowlands and forested ranges, sometimes linked by riparian strips. Those general climbing features are not unique diagnostic characters of this species.
Museums Victoria records a male mounted specimen from North Queensland under Dendrolagus bennettianus, classified in Diprotodontia and Macropodidae. That specimen documents identity and collecting geography; its taxidermy posture does not establish normal behaviour.
