Overview
DreamWorks' official Mystery-class profile identifies the Death Song as a solitary predator living on a lush island beyond the usual archipelago. Its attractive appearance and melody conceal a feeding strategy: a compelling call draws other dragons close enough to be immobilised by liquid that hardens into a cocoon. The description compares its dangerous appeal with sirens and black widow spiders. Those are literary and visual comparisons rather than a claim of literal spider ancestry. Humans can also become victims when they enter the hunting area.
The official guide identifies fire as a way through the hardened material, Thunderdrums' poor hearing as a partial defence against the call, and confined spaces as a danger to the singer itself. Call of the Death Song in School of Dragons gives this ecology a local crisis: a wild dragon leaves Melody Island and establishes hunting territory around Berk and the school. Astrid warns of the effect on the invaded ecosystem. The Assault on Berk quest uses Monstrous Nightmare gel as fuel to melt the trap. That concrete rescue method supports the fire vulnerability without proving that every substance visually resembling amber has identical properties.
First appearances & development
The selected licensed-game expansion dates to 2015 and follows the animated franchise's Death Song presentation. Its specialist reference gives conflicting late-August release dates, so only the verified year is used here. Later Titan and shop-unlock changes are availability or growth states within the same species.
Canon & continuity
The full official Death Song profile and indexed expansion/Assault on Berk passages were read. Secondary speculation about extra vertebrae and a mythological transformation is not adopted as confirmed anatomy or origin. The body's prey mechanism and countermeasures come from the publisher guide, while the ecological crisis is attributed to the game's characters.
