Overview

Dan Hasumi is an apprentice of Mai-Aska in Tremearne’s notice. Baldness is attributed to him as to the senior barber spirit, but the collector’s joking comment about the profession is separate from that belief. His representation circles the ring, sits and alternates one hand above the other. The account explains that sign as affirming truth and inviting gifts, rather than describing a physical transformation.

The song begins with spectators asking to see their warrior, then gives the spirit a reply: whether he lives or dies rests with his mount. Tremearne explains this through the quality of the dance, saying a badly performed representation threatens the spirit. The short notice thus preserves an unusual dependency between supernatural figure and human performance. It gives no independent death episode, so the conditional statement is not turned into a completed event.
