Modern AI interpretation of four-armed stinkhorn form.
Modern AI interpretation of the reported fruit-body form; microstructure and surroundings are schematic.
Overview
Kew’s taxon portal accepts Clathrus archeri under Index Fungorum and lists Anthurus, Lysurus, Pseudocolus and Aserophallus names as synonyms. Those names belong to the same species account. Its empty local occurrence map does not establish that the fungus is absent from a country.
Pasaylyuk and colleagues isolated a culture from an egg-stage fruit body and tested substrate-dependent growth. Only beech-shaving inoculum produced fruit bodies after transfer to their field sites. The first appeared after 570 days in a meadow. Young eggs developed four pink arms with olive-green gleba on their inner surfaces.
The meadow and forest results varied with inoculation season and substrate. These site-specific observations do not establish a universal fruiting timetable, arm count or global conservation status.
