Overview

Chorts are powerful, four-legged relatives of Fiends, smaller in comparison but still capable of devastating an opponent or settlement. The bestiary distinguishes them from prank-playing, talkative Sylvans that legends can confuse with them. A Chort communicates through animal-like sounds and relies on a direct charge followed by claws, bites and blows. Rapid regeneration and great bulk make its danger more than a single impact.

Wild Hunt uses this physical monster in encounters such as Berengar's Blade and gives particular specimens their own contract contexts. The licensed guide provides a second practical treatment, without turning every instance into a new species. This entry keeps the setting's distinction between Chort and Sylvan and does not equate the monster's anatomy with every Slavic being bearing a related name. Its game weaknesses are edition-specific tools for an encounter rather than a timeless folklore rule.

First appearances & development

The selected version is 2015 game and licensed-guide. CD Projekt RED's games adapt Sapkowski's setting while adding their own creature designs, quest histories and combat classifications. This profile identifies those game treatments, rather than asserting that every detail originates in the novels. Spellings and named variants remain within the same account unless a substantive independent comparison is required.

Canon & continuity

The Witcher Wiki is an independent reference, and its public MediaWiki API supplied the version-labeled bestiary text and relevant quest accounts. Publisher-hosted Prima guide excerpts provide additional context where listed. The bibliography identifies the actual game or reference chapter; it does not imply a complete audit of every novel, expansion, patch, screen adaptation or full guidebook.
