Overview
Nepal’s National Foundation for Development of Indigenous Nationalities identifies Chepang among the country’s listed Indigenous nationalities. Its account places their present homeland across connected Mahabharat hills in Makwanpur, Chitwan, Gorkha and Dhading. It explicitly distinguishes competing origin stories from verified written history; those stories should not be collapsed into one established genealogy.
The Institute for Indigenous Affairs and Development describes grassroots work begun with Chepang communities in 2012, including poultry farming as a livelihood initiative. Its One Chepang Child Sponsorship program supports education, supplies and personal development. These named programs show contemporary institutional activity, without defining every Chepang family by one livelihood or a narrative of deficiency.
